MATTRESS FINISHES

Quilted or tufted?

Most mattresses are finished by either quilting, or tufting. Quilting produces a smooth, flatter finish while tufting features undulations on the mattress surface with pom-pom finishes.

Pocket sprung and tufting

Tufting involves passing tapes through the mattress at intervals to prevent loose fillings from becoming dislodged and is a necessary part of the construction of a pocket sprung mattress used to anchor the springs into place.

The sides of mattresses are also quilted and high-quality products can be hand side-stitched, which helps to keep the mattress in shape for longer whilst also providing a very stable edge.

Quilted

A quilted mattress offers sleepers a flatter finish with a high comfort level. Quilting is used to attach the outer fabric to the surface of the fillings inside the mattress.

Typically most foam and hybrid mattresses feature this type of sleep surface.
